Overview
Though there are many programs addressing some key issues affecting women and girls such as Sexual Health and Financial Empowerment. At SERnina, we believe that if girls have not fully developed their identity, self-esteem and self-value, they will not be able to apply the life skills they are learning.
Therefore, what makes SERnina different, is that before providing girls with the skills and knowledge they need to create their own bright future, we first work with them to discover who they are, their strengths and their powerful ability to make the best choices for herself.

We provide empowerment, self-esteem and leadership workshops to girls of Guatemala coming from severely disadvantaged backgrounds. |
We do this by leading a number of workshops of self-development teaching themes such as: values, identity, self-esteem and self-love. Then, we move into the skill-building aspect of the program where we teach girls the skills and knowledge they will need to take charge of their life. Some of these topics include: Understanding your Human Rights, Sexual & Menstrual Health, Financial Literacy, Healthy Relationships, and Goal-Setting.
We work in collaboration with local educational organizations to provide a program best suited for their specific needs. All of our workshops are taught by local Guatemala women who have been trained as SERnina Facilitators.
When we invest in a girl, it creates a ripple effect of positive change in her own life and in her community at large. With her self-value in tact, she will grow up to be an educated, productive citizen and a prepared employee. She will be the most influential force in her family and her greater community to break the cycle of poverty.
Therefore, by creating stronger girls, we create stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger world.
